TIP OF THE MONTH

Playing it Safe on Halloween:

Halloween may be a fun holiday for kids, but for parents, trick-or-treat time can be a little troublesome. But not to worry! Following a few safety tips will ensure that Halloween will be a "holwing" good time for all.
  • Set a time limit for children to trick-or-treat. Together map out a safe route so you know where they will be.
  • Do not allow children to go Trick or Treating alone. Accompany young children to the door of every house they approach.
  • NEVER approach any house that is not well lit and does not have a porch or an outside light on.
  • Try to get kids to trick-or-treat while it is still light out. If it is dark, make sure a couple of people are carrying flashlights that work.
  • Wear reflective clothing and carry a glowstick or flashlight. Bags or sacks should also be light colored or decorated with reflective tape
  • Drive slowly all evening-you never know what creature may suddenly cross your path.
  • Caution Children against running between parked cars or across lawns where ornaments, furniture, or clotheslines present dangers.
  • What to eat? Only unopen candies and other treats that are in original wrappers. Don't forget to inspect fruit and homemade goodies for anything suspicious.
  • Report any suspicious or criminal activity to your local police or sheriff's department.
  • Please check back each month for a new tip!
